It has become a matter of courage and ambition to visit Eastern Anatolia, both for Turks and for foreigners. Few tourists volontarily travel to the East. In the last few years, Turks are developing an interest to visit the eastern part of their country and we hope that this interest will increase.

On your trip to Eastern Anatolia, at the far end of the road, Kars city and province, where dilfferent races and cultures have lived in peace for ages, deserve a special mention, Apart from continuous emigration to the West, the province has given birth to two others, Ardahan and Iğdır in the year 1992, wherefore the population has dwindled to 320 000.However, about three million natives of Kars now live in the western part of the country and it is the latter that should visit Kars before anyone else. With several air flights every day, KARS is no longer a distant destination.

Tens of thousands Europeans visited Kars annually in the eighties, on tours dedicated to Ancient East Anatolian Civilizations, despite poor accommodation conditions. After the Gulf Crisis of 1991 and in the anticipation of terror, numbers of foreign guests have collapsed, cousing great damage to local economy. We now expect partial recovery, which may be supported with the interest raised by the novel 'SNOW' related to Kars, written by Mr.O. Pamuk, the only Turkish Nobel prize-winner. Establishment of good relations with neighboring country Armenia will certainly stimulate tourism in the region.

ARKAR ANIHAN RESORT HOTEL is a tourism complex that has recently been awarded official 3-star hotel ranking. Located on the southern fringe of the town, all buildings have only one floor totaling 3300 swuare meters, spread over 4 acres of land, surrounded by fields adjacent to the tangential main road. At 3 KMs distance from the center and the bustle of the city, the entrance is through a wide open parking place, leading to the reception hall and the lounge with ample space around. Next invites you a huge dining hall of 300 seating capacity, provided with a pretty bar in the entrance and also open-air dining grounds.

Bedroom blocks consist of 16 rooms, eight on either side. There are altogether six blocks which will eventually provide 96 rooms meeting the 3-STAR standards. Bedrooms are approached direct through garden paths, surrounded with grass and all sorts of flowers. There is no corridor.

Room floors are polished pine wood. There is no carpet on the floor, hygiene comes first.

Towel fabric slippers are provided free of charge. Each room is large enough to have a double and a single bed and standard furniture. Remarkably, blankets are completely inserted in white sheets, so that you will not feel disturbed no matter how much you turn around in your bed. A mini fridge is provided to keep your drinks and fruits. Remote controlled TV set with own digital receiver allows reception of hundreds of useful and useless channels. Bathroom and wardrobe are positioned at the rear. Hair-drier and second telephone set available in the bathroom, additional blanket and pillow in the wardrobe. Central heating installed in your room, and is in function whenever it is cold. Hot water continuously available. There is only natural air-circulation in the room and in the bathroom.

Wireless internet access available for your lap-top free of charge. Otherwise, you may hira a P.C. to be installed in your room. You can make use of the computer at the reception desk, to have a glimpse at your e-mail, also free of charge

On the other side of the reception hall, a recreation saloon at your disposal, equipped with two billiard tables, a ping-pong table and tables to play cards. A volleyball pitch out in the garden will be made available in the season. Plenty of open space available to stroll and sprint around

The open car park is suitable for up to 80 small vehicles. The adjacent closed car park can keep up to 24 small vehicles. We have equipment to help start vehicles in cold weather.
